Tuesday was a long travel day to Nicaragua but full of anticipation! Due to availability, we had to split into two groups on two separate flights from JFK, New York, to Panama City. The first group had a seven hour layover which was filled with crossword puzzle relays, exploring the airport and Zora’s kleenex box may have gotten thrown into a few crowds. Once the second group joined us it was a happy reunion as all 27 of us took over the gate as we waited for our flight to board.
After landing in Managua, Nicaragua we had no problems with customs or security as we came into the country, which was a huge answer to prayer, as they can be very strict about who and what comes into Nicaragua. It was truly through your prayers that we made it smoothly! Once out of the airport we all piled into a bus for a very bumpy, 2-hour bus ride. Half of the team fell promptly asleep while the other half enjoyed the first sights of Nicaraguan nightlife…mainly street dogs! We arrived at Campo Alegria around 2 am on Wednesday morning, which for some was 24 hours of travel! Yassar and Oscar, the caretakers of the property, were there to greet us when we arrived. Bags were unloaded and we made our way to the “Blue cabin” as everyone was ready to sleep! On entering the cabin we noticed a small bat who had found his way inside when the door was left open. Everyone was too tired to care and we were happy to see he found his way out by morning!
