Horsemanship

So many options to choose from!! There is one that is just right for you!! All riders need long, straight legged pants and boots or shoes with a small heel (no sneakers). Mt. Gilead will supply the helmets.

Regular horsemanship
Horseback riding is available for all ages and skill levels from the beginner to the advanced rider, new skills will be learned and others mastered. Classes are set up according to experience and ability. English style horseback riding is taught by our qualified and caring staff. Campers will ride for 50 minutes each day, Monday through Friday.

Searcher Equestrian Quest
SEQ is for campers completing 5th and 6th grade who just can't get enough of horses!! If campers choose this option they do not select other daily activities, they will participate in horse related activities throughout the day. These campers will participate in Divisional and All-Camp activities in the evenings. Campers will learn to groom, tack, feed, and care for horses and do chores that go along with owning a horse, in addition to extended periods of riding instruction. These campers will participate in a horse show on Saturday morning beginning at 10:00 am. All are invited!

Prerequisites:
Camper must be completing 5th or 6th grade.
Minimal riding experience necessary
Please pack long pants, and boots or shoes with a small heel.

Campers must complete a questionnaire about their experience and skills(will be mailed to you upon registration for camp), acceptance into program will be granted after questionnaire has been completed and submitted.


Equestrian Quest I and II
EQ I and II are for campers completing 7th through 11th grade who want to live and breathe horses the entire week of camp! These campers will not select any other daily activities but will be doing horse related activities and chores in addition to extended periods of riding. Campers participating in EQ programs will rise early and before breakfast help to catch, groom, feed the horses, and complete other chores that go along with caring for a horse. A horse show will conclude the week on Saturday morning at 10 AM. All are invited to witness the exciting progress and skills these campers have mastered this week.

Equestrian Quest I is for the intermediate rider. Campers will learn to canter and begin jumping. In addition to furthering their riding skills, and learning care and stable management there will be guest speakers who will come to camp to share about their careers and vocations relating to horses.

Prerequisites - EQ I (Intermediate):
Camper must be completing 7th through 11th grade
Must be secure at a posting trot and ready to canter

Acceptance into program pending approval after questionnaire is returned
Advanced Beginner & Intermediate riders
Good control at a walk, trot, and posting trot
Ready to canter

Equestrian Quest II is for the advanced rider. Campers will be secure at a canter and have minimal jumping experience. In addition to furthering their riding skills, and learning care and stable management there will be guest speakers, and/or trips to facilities to experience horses used for therapy and an animal rescue.

Prerequisites - EQ II (Advanced):
Camper must be completing 7th through 11th grade
Must be secure at a canter and minimal experience jumping

Intermediate & Advanced Riders
Good control at a walk, trot, posting trot, and canter
